I would love to get my hands on analytics for Web sites that sell tea online just for today, April 15. I noticed this ad while reading a Huffington Post article about the Tea Party in Washington D.C.

Too bad they don't offer same day delivery!

This is an excellent example of real world events that effect online advertising. The web isn’t a vacuum, folks. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an uptick in tea purchases that are tangential to the Tea Party phenomenon. People do enjoy drinking tea as well as dumping it in protest!

The new Obama administration has set up a transition information Web site in the same vein of the campaign Web site. There is a count down to the inauguration as well as you tube videos, jobs, agenda items, information about appointments and employment opportunities. I’m happy to see that the President-elect is continuing his commitment to social media. I was so impressed by the consistent message his campaign used between emails, text messages, content ads and the main Web site.

I was even more impressed that not more than 30min after his victory address, Obama sent out a last text message:

When are conservatives going to wake up to the real threat that exists against freedom and liberty in this country. It is the enemy within that Lincoln feared. It is Liberal terrorists, their political arm the Democratic Party, their propaganda machine the mainstream media, and their shock troops in Hollywood. If we wait much longer to recognize and engage this enemy within they will take down the country via assaults on energy production and GNP producing businesses, redistribution of wealth to their ingnorant morally bankrupt voting base, and beating down our weak GOP leadership into irrelavancy. The only thing I haven’t figured out is why they want to destroy their own country unless it is so they can rebuild it into something akin to the communism they miss so dearly where they will be the priveleged elite. It took us 30 years to wake up to Jihadists, the country won’t survive 30 more years of liberal assaults.

First, I’m glad this Jerry fellow isn’t my dad. Talk about paranoid. Second, Democrats are not communists. And third, Jerry, I know this will come a great surprise to you in your black and white world view, there are more out there than Republicans and Democrats. I don’t think Anonymous would take kindly to be labeled as Democrats. My guess they are more likely anarchists.

Yes, there are people who want to bring communism to the United States. Those people are not Democrats. I’m sorry Jerry, but you don’t have the monopoly on Capitalism. Have you forgot you’re party has been in power the last 8 years, Jerry?  Its your party, the Republicans, that is “morally bankrupt”. Your party’s ruinous policies have got us to this point.  Democrats don’t want to destroy the country, they want to make it better. And by make it better, they mean for everyone, not just white males.

Jerry, your paranoia is the enemy within you — and within your party. Please open your eyes. You certainly don’t have to vote Democrat, Jerry, but you should at least acknowledge the hipocracy within your own party.

Obama has received a lot of support here in Minnesota. I think his Minnesotan campaign slogan should be “Oh You Betcha!”

Comparing Barack Obama’s oratory with that of the late Senator Paul Wellstone.

They both have such passion. Like Paul Wellstone, Barack Obama’s speechcraft is inspiring. I am really gunning for Obama to get the democratic nomination. I do like Hillary, I do, but I think it is her timing right now. Not to mention that the current state of the delegates have shown her “true colors” so to speak. If someone is giving us hope, why would one want to stomp all over out dreams as Hillary has been doing with the attack ads in Wisconsin and her latest speeches. It is playing dirty. I know that the desire to win, that competitiveness, is definitely something to value in a leader, but quite frankly I’m tired of leaders playing dirty. She should really know better by now. She’s the one with all the experience.

As I wrote about a month back, you can gauge the presidential primary campaigns by viewing the PPC ads related to them.

When I wrote last, McCain wasn’t a front runner at all. He had high hopes, however – he was already bidding on “Hillary Clinton”. Now that he’s the apparent front runner, McCain is now a valuable keyword.

This “Pray 4 the USA” website is interesting. There is no mention of McCain at all on it. For good or bad. I didn’t see this website buying “Hillary Clinton” or “Barack Obama”. I guess the democrats aren’t encouraged to pray for their nation.

I’m sure I’m not the only marketer, seo or otherwise out there talking about the 2008 presidential election. But I can’t let this discovery pass without saying something. Besides I need crap to blog about.

Taking a closer look at the very lonely Google Ad.

Well I was quite surprised and simultaneously pleased that Mike Huckabee’s campaign had the smarts to bid on Mitt Romney’s name. I also like the tagline “searching for a conservative?” Great work Huckabee PPC campaign.

This little discovery sent me to Google to look up who was buying what keywords.

A search for “Mitt Romney” on Google brought up the same Huckabee ad. Mitt appears to be opting out of pay per click this election.

A search for “Mike Huckabee” on Google produced a sponsored link for Huckabee with a tagline that reads “Faith. Family. Freedom. Conservatives are choosing Huckabee”.

No one feels “John McCain” is worth ad spend apparently. There were 0 ads on a Google query. However John’s campaign is buying “Hillary Clinton”

Another interesting thing to note is that Norm Coleman – the REPUBLICAN senator from Minnesota is buying on “Hillary Clinton”. I wonder what his staff is hoping to achieve with that one.

“Rudi Giuliani” produced a very funny paid placement:

I personally would think the Rudi Giuliani camp would want to bury that one. Also noticeably absent were ads for any other candidates.

I wonder how much effect the Huckabee paid placements had in Iowa and will have in New Hampshire. I think its a smart use of funds. Even if the users don’t click through there is that subtle jab that Romney isn’t the conservative those conservatives are looking for.
