Scientology Taking Boston (not so) Anonymous to Court

Several attorneys interviewed by Lawyers Weekly are questioning the validity of the charges against Housh. “There is no way this case belongs in a criminal courtroom,” says one defense lawyer who requested anonymity of the do-not-quote-me kind. “I’m glad I don’t have to figure out how to get rid of it, but this case ought to be dismissed.”

As Dlott tries to arrive at such a result, he acknowledges that the new charge has already affected Housh’s probation status in federal court.

“The day they filed this complaint was scheduled to be the last day of his probation on a federal conviction he had for pirating software,” Dlott explains. “He served three months [in prison] and was on his last day of probation when they filed the complaint, but as a result of this, the federal probation has been extended.” - Scientology Case Headed to BMC

Doing search marketing for law firms, I happen to run across a lot of legal-related articles on the Internet. This one in particular piqued my interest. I had read on another blog (that I don’t remember the URL of ) that the Church of Scientology had filed some complaints against “outed” Anonymous protesters. I have to admit I do have a fascination with this particular crusade of Anon’s.

I think it is interesting to look at the legal aspects of Anonymous’ “War”. It is really unfortunate that Gregg Housh did the right thing and registered the protest, only to be charged. It is also unfortunate that this ridiculous charge is messing with the terms of his probation. While I don’t agree with pirating, I do find it somewhat vindictive to file a complaint with Scientology’s attorney knowing it would affect Mr. Housh’s probation. It is nothing but litigious bullying on the part of the “church” in my opinion. Nothing terrible happened during these protests. By all accounts it has been peaceful demonstrations in Boston. Why does Scientology feel that they can stifle the 1st Amendment rights of people? I don’t think a demonstration or protest is violating their 2nd Amendment right at all.

I hope his fellow Boston Anon steps up to the plate and helps to pay for some of the poor guy’s legal fees. He did make it possible for them to legally protest after all.

More CoS PPC

I really don’t know why I’m finding these Church of Scientology ads so amusing. At least the placement of this one makes more sense.

Get the facts about Scientology

I love the Britney Spears ringtones ad here too. Like if all else fails, I can at least answer my phone to “Oops, I did it again”.
