Doing search marketing for law firms, I happen to run across a lot of legal-related articles on the Internet. This one in particular piqued my interest. I had read on another blog (that I don’t remember the URL of ) that the Church of Scientology had filed some complaints against “outed” Anonymous protesters. I have to admit I do have a fascination with this particular crusade of Anon’s.

I think it is interesting to look at the legal aspects of Anonymous’ “War”. It is really unfortunate that Gregg Housh did the right thing and registered the protest, only to be charged. It is also unfortunate that this ridiculous charge is messing with the terms of his probation. While I don’t agree with pirating, I do find it somewhat vindictive to file a complaint with Scientology’s attorney knowing it would affect Mr. Housh’s probation. It is nothing but litigious bullying on the part of the “church” in my opinion. Nothing terrible happened during these protests. By all accounts it has been peaceful demonstrations in Boston. Why does Scientology feel that they can stifle the 1st Amendment rights of people? I don’t think a demonstration or protest is violating their 2nd Amendment right at all.

I hope his fellow Boston Anon steps up to the plate and helps to pay for some of the poor guy’s legal fees. He did make it possible for them to legally protest after all.

I saw a couple blog posts about how the Church of Scientology has begun an AdWords campaign to promote their newly redesigned video channel website. It is a pretty fancy new website.

That said, they really need to learn to PPC. Why are they buying “scientology” and “church of scientology”? They are already ranking for those terms!

Also, my friends at the CoS… the word of today is canonical. I don’t know why you guys are maintaining that old site along with the new video site. I see the link there in your video channel and I don’t get it. The branding, tone, etc is really disjointed.

As far as I could tell they were not buying money terms like “tom cruise”, “xenu”, “$cientology” or “chanology” the latter being the name of sorts for the Anonymous movement. If you’re going to buy terms to defend your good name – know your enemies!

I guess one of the more curious discovery while looking to see who was bidding on what on the YouTubes was the fact that Medifast is buying on this term too? They are all freaking over YouTube.

I don’t know who is doing their online marketing but I’ve noticed that they have been really aggressive lately. I see Medifast EVERYWHERE now. I really found this ad highly amusing juxtaposed with the Anonymous / Scientology content. Are they saying the 4chan anon kids are fat (hey /b/ does this post make my ass look fat? in before tits or GTFO)? Or the Scientologists or both? I guess we as humans can all find a commonality in our weird body-image issues. Lets all hold hands and slurp a ready-to-drink soy-shake. Maybe L Ron Hubbard should have started a diet-related cult instead.
